Being an interdisciplinary research institute, UCA's Mountain Societies Research Institute (MSRI) is dedicated to addressing the challenges and opportunities within Central Asian mountain communities and environments. MSRI's major research themes include Natural Resource Management, Sustainable Mountain Livelihoods, Adaptation to Climate Change, Mountain Hazards and Disaster Risk Management.
MSRI fully embeds its vision and research projects within the strategic UN Sustainable Development Goals framework, with special attention on mountain regions and societies. MSRI is an active and strong proponent of the Sustainable Mountain Development (SMD) agenda, considering the unique aspects of "mountain life" generally as well as the specific challenges and opportunities derived from mountain environments in Central Asia.
A Call for Mountains | World Mountain Forum 2018
UCA and the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic co-organized the fourth World Mountain Forum (WMF 2018) to share experiences and best practices, and develop integrated solutions to existing challenges of sustainable development in mountain regions. The final "Call for Mountains" conference output document is now available online.
